Fossil excavations are ongoing at this world-famous scientific site in Southern Virginia/Northern North Carolina thanks to generous access and assistance by Ararat Rock Products Company, owner of the quarry. VMNH scientists and volunteers are working to recover as much Triassic (250-200 million years ago) fossil material as possible from the active mining site. This excavation is funded by the National Geographic Society.
