REPTILE DAY 2014 is TODAY from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.!! Hundreds of live snakes and other reptiles! Live rattlesnakes, copperheads, pythons, king cobra, turtles and much more!! Special presentations by Mark Kilby with exotic reptiles at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., with a special festival-ending presentation at 3 p.m.! See you there!

The entire Sanville Elementary School participated in Reptile Day Student Day 2014 at the museum on Friday, October 10. The school was able to attend thanks to the generous donations of the Sanville Ruritan Club, which funded the students' visit to the museum. Children were able to see 100's of live snakes and other animals, watch presentations by professional herpetologists and reptile experts, and participate in games and educational programming. This Saturday, October 11, the museum is hosting Reptile Day 2014 at the museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.! "2nd Thursday Science Talks" are set to begin Thursday at 6 p.m. when Dr. Jim Beard, curator of earth sciences and director of research and collections at VMNH, brings the world of geological microscopy to the audience. Featuring an array of images of microscopic geological features, "Useful Beauty: The World of Geological Microscopy", will offer insight into the work that Dr. Beard accomplishes as curator at the museum and why the study of geology is a unique and important scientific field. The Virginia Museum of Natural History was pleased to take part in the first Southern Virginia Career Choice: Youth Expo event at the Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex near Chatham October 1-2.
