Over the last two days, museum educators have been providing free distance learning programming for students at Fishburn Park Elementary School in Roanoke and Meadow View Elementary School in Henry County thanks to scholarships funded by museum partner Boxley Materials Company!
Students participated in the "It's Alive!" program, in which they investigated life cycles, characteristics, behaviors, and adaptations of some of the museum's fascinating live animals, such as Reggie (ball python), Sheldon (painted turtle), as well as the museum's resident Madagascar hissing cockroaches!
VMNH distance learning programs bring students to the museum without ever having to leave their seats. Through the use of two-way video, classes join museum educators to explore Virginia's natural heritage and uncover its rich biological and geological history. Together, with the use of videoconferencing and interactive activities, museum educators spark imagination, enhance curricula, and support Virginia and national educational standards.
