Friends of VMNH
Founded as a volunteer advocacy group in support of the Virginia Museum of Natural History, we, the Friends of VMNH, endeavor to:
- Support the Museum in its mission of interpreting Virginia's natural heritage in ways that are relevant to all citizens of the Commonwealth, as approved by its Board of Trustees in July 1990;
- Foster an understanding and appreciation among the community of the official charter purposes of the Museum, as stated in the Code of Virginia;
- Encourage strong community involvement of organizations and individuals in the mission and purposes of the Museum;
- Raise awareness of the benefits derived from the Museum's presence in our community through activities that celebrate all age, race, ethnic, and religious groups;
- Provide volunteer assistance to the Museum on special projects according to the skills and talents of the member group.
Youth Volunteers
Would you like to go behind the scenes at the Virginia Museum of Natural History?
The museum offers many volunteer opportunities throughout the
school year and during the summer for youth ages 13 to 18. Volunteers can help museum staff with exhibits, education, special events, and in other areas of the museum. You’ll have fun while gaining useful skills for the future. Volunteer daily, weekly, monthly- whatever fits your schedule.
