Family Fun Fridays
About Summertime is fun time at the Museum! All summer long, Fridays will be filled with fun, family-oriented activities from 2 to 4 p.m. with special events and presentations led by VMNH education staff and volunteers. Free with admission to the Museum. Members are always admitted free.
Summer 2008 Schedule June 27 Amazing Feats of Aging - Step right up and find out about the museum’s latest exhibit.
July 4 State Symbols - Did you know Virginia has a state fossil? It does! See this and other natural Virginia and national symbols.
July 11 Find-A-Fossil - Visitors will see examples of common marine shells and hunt for real fossils that came from Virginia’s coastal plain.
July 18 SPCA: Special Pets - Are you thinking about getting a pet? Stop by the museum and meet some special friends from the SPCA. Also, learn some pet care tips such as grooming and feeding schedules.
July 25 Reptiles - Fascinated with reptiles? Stop by to see various reptile specimens like a rattlesnake and snake sheds.
August 1 Virginia Mammals - Virginia has some amazing creatures! Learn about our resident marsupial, the possum, and many more mammals by examining furs and skulls.
August 8 Summer Plants - Can you identify poison ivy? We will look at this summertime scourge; what to do if you come in contact with it; and, discuss some other notable seasonal greenery.
August 15 Fairy Stone Facts - Named for the cross-shaped stones found at nearby Fairy Stone State Park, visitors will learn about where fairy stones can be found; how fairy stones (staurolite crystals) form; and, search for a fairy stone in a dig pan.
August 22 Whales - Have a whale of a good time learning about whales and make an origami whale to take home!
August 29 Rocks and Minerals - Explore how we use rocks and minerals every day by looking at several rock and mineral samples.
